The Role
After completing one certification course (a Specialty Program or a Core Certification), you can decide to join the Six Seconds Community of Practice and become a Network Leader.
Purpose: Engage & support a local group to practice through EQ Café events
Internal Client: Local network members practicing EQ and helping others do so
Supervisor: Regional Network Director
Type: Volunteer
Title: ___(city) EQ Network Leader
Qualifications: Active EQPC / multiple certs; alignment with Six Seconds’ vision & philosophy
Duration: One year, renewable on mutual agreement.
Responsibilities:
The Network Leader (NL) works to develop and support a network of members and practitioners in a city/metro area as part of Six Seconds’ nonprofit mission of supporting people to create positive change -- by engaging people to practice together through EQ Café events.
Local Network
To make this happen, Six Seconds will provide materials every quarter for the Network Leader to hold at least three events per year (either the current quarterly Cafés and/or the annual POP-UP Festival for Children’s Day). Six Seconds provides the content (slides, facilitator notes, invite) and posts the events on its sites. The NL invites people locally and holds the event (free of charge, but fees or donations may be collected to offset actual costs, such as venue rental). The EQ Cafés are interactive workshops to experience EQ -- primarily focused the larger community and building a more emotionally intelligent world.
Registration to Cafes is handled via Six Seconds’ process online. If registration is not done via Six Seconds’ process, then NL will report attendance to each Cafe to Six Seconds, including names+emails of participants.
Global Network
In addition, the Network Leaders are part of building and sustaining a global movement for a more emotionally intelligent world. NL responsibilities in this include:
Join each of the quarterly NL web meetings to review the Cafe plan and to engage & support other NLs and get support for this exciting work, and, as needed, interact in the Network Leaders facebook group (this group is for Q&A about Cafes and discussing “privately” with fellow Network Leaders.
At least monthly, post or comment on the EQ Network Facebook group or Six Seconds’ other social media channels to share with the broader community.
Participate in facebook.com/sixseconds by commenting/interacting -- and sharing items from this page to your local group (and/or the big EQ Network group)
In addition, the NL may collaborate with the Regional Network Director to...
Hold other free meetings, webinars, or events to support the local network.
Plan other free projects and engage others to participate in volunteer projects to put EQ into action – such as an EQ day for teachers, an EQ party, a series of meetings to practice a specific skill, or one of Six Seconds’ global virtual projects.
Host other events, or even certifications, when there is sufficient interest.
Compensation:
The NL is a volunteer position.
This not an employed position, and as such any compensation is as an “Independent Contractor” and there are no benefits.
Expenses related to the NL activities will be reimbursable only if there is a pre-agreement with a Six Seconds’ Director or executive.
Positioning & Conflict of Interest
The work as NL is part of Six Seconds nonprofit mission, working to build a community of people committed to practicing emotional intelligence. Many NLs are, in addition to their volunteer work, developing their business as EQ Practitioners. While the NL role can help create authority and outreach, the primary purpose of being an NL is to pursue your noble goal.
NLs may not: | NLs are encouraged to: |

Pursue for-profit training/consulting under Six Seconds’ name | Do for-profit work under your own brand (only) and, like all Certified, use the Certified logos to show your association with Six Seconds |
Give away SEIs using credits given for the purpose of the EQ Cafe, outside the context of the EQ Cafe | Give away the link for the assessment in advance of the Cafe upon registration, participants must come to the cafe to receive their report |
