New practitioners often ask... "Should I do my presentation like the presentation in my certification course... or how should I plan it?" Here are some easy, practical ideas for planning your presentation, ideas for some exercises, and links for sample slides.

Typically when Six Seconds' team members plan presentations for the general public, we do not focus on "teaching" the Model or going through all the data. Usually we focus on building the case... sharing some neuroscience... and engaging participants' curiosity. We cocreate a context where participants have meaningful conversation and PRACTICE emotional intelligence in the time together.

Presentation Structure

Six Seconds' team members use the Change MAP as a structure to plan a presentation. Three steps: Engage (get buy-in), Activate (experiment and make it real), Reflect (synthesize and plan what's next).

ENGAGE

The goal of this phase is to create buy-in and move toward excitement.

In advance, have everyone take the Brain Brief Profile to create curiosity. Tell participants they'll get their Profile at the workshop to learn how they're currently using emotional intelligence to get data, make decisions, and drive action.

At the session, start with some way to build the case. For example:

Ask people to define the key ingredients for success in this context/company/school (they could discuss at tables, or make a picture, or a list). Ask how many of their ideas fit into the categories of Effectiveness, Relationships, Quality of Life, Wellbeing.

Point out that "Success" in the graph is the 4 items above (e.g. Effectiveness)... and that the learnable, measurable, scientifically grounded skills of emotional intelligence are highly predictive of these outcomes – they seem to move together.

Discuss: Why might it be useful to develop more awareness of, and skills with emotion here... and why might that Not be useful?

Explain that if they decide they DO want to develop more emotional intelligence, it's learnable!

ACTIVATE

The goal of this phase is to experience success and move toward courage.

Share Data

Conduct a brief activity sharing some key data about the brain & emotions. For example, get the Practicing EQ eBook from 6sec.org/practicing and print or order printed booklets from the EQ Store. Ask each small group or table to read one page with some of the neuroscience facts, and to discuss: What is the implication of this data for us? Then ask each table/group to share one key point from their discussion.

Tell them they can get the eBook via 6sec.org/practicing (or, if you have ordered printed booklets, tell them you have a copy for each person as a gift at the end).

Define EQ with the BBP

Define emotional intelligence using the 3 scales of the Brain Brief Profile: EQ is about having the focus to blend emotional + rational data... so we can make better decisions... so we can drive effective results. Each of us has a particular Brain Style of how we've learned to do that... some brains prefer to start w rational data, some prefer to start w emotional data... etc briefly explaining the 3 scales.

Hand out the BBPs, and ask participants to join in small groups – depending on the number of people in your class, you could divide into the 8 Brain Styles... or if it's a small group, 2 groups (such as Rational Focus & Emotional Focus)

In the groups, do an exercise – for example, challenge the groups to see which can build the tallest freestanding tower out of 50 toothpicks + 20 jelly candies. Ask them to discuss the impact of the Brain Styles on the way they focused... made decisions... and drove during the exercise.

REFLECT

The goal of this phase is to lock in learning, build curiosity for discovery, and commit to the next time around the cycle – 1, 2, 3 Pasta!

At the end, ask the groups to discuss some of these questions...

What are some things that helped your group be successful, and some that interfered with success?
How are those same factors affecting your performance in your daily work / life?
How did your Brain Style appear during this exercise?
What are some of the benefits of your Brain Style and some of the risks?
How could you ensure you USE your Brain Style more carefully so as to optimize... and build on those things listed above that help success?

Conclude with Action

Ask each person to identify one specific action step that will help them use their Brain Style more effectively... and to share with a partner what they'll do and how it will help.

ATRAER

El objetivo de esta fase es crear curiosidad y avanzar hacia la emoción o expectativa.

De antemano, procure que todos tomen el Perfil Brain Brief para crear curiosidad. Dígales a los participantes que obtendrán su perfil en el taller para saber cómo están utilizando actualmente la inteligencia emocional para obtener datos, tomar decisiones e impulsar acciones.

En la sesión, comience a construir el caso de alguna manera. Por ejemplo:

Pida a las personas que definan los ingredientes clave para el éxito en este contexto / compañía / escuela (podrían discutir en las mesas, hacer una foto o una lista). Pregunte cuántas de sus ideas encajan en las categorías de Efectividad, Relaciones, Calidad de Vida, Bienestar.

Muestre la diapositiva del Estado del Corazón (State of the Heart) que muestra la correlación de EQ y éxito. Comparta la Data

Realice una breve actividad compartiendo algunos datos clave sobre el cerebro y las emociones. Por ejemplo, obtenga el libro electrónico Practicando EQ en 6sec.org/practicando e imprima o solicite folletos impresos en la tienda de EQ. Pida a cada grupo pequeño o mesa que lea una página con algunos de los datos de neurociencia, y discuta: ¿Cuál es la implicación de estos datos para nosotros? Luego pida a cada mesa / grupo que comparta un punto clave de su discusión.

Defina el EQ con el BBP

Defina la inteligencia emocional utilizando las 3 escalas del Perfil de Brain Brief: EQ se trata de tener el enfoque para combinar datos emocionales + racionales ... para que podamos tomar mejores decisiones ... para poder lograr resultados efectivos. Cada uno de nosotros tiene un Estilo Cerebral particular y depende de cómo hemos aprendido a hacer eso ... algunos cerebros prefieren comenzar con datos racionales, algunos prefieren comenzar con datos emocionales ... etc., explicando brevemente las 3 escalas.

Reparta los BBP y pida a los participantes que se unan en grupos pequeños; dependiendo de la cantidad de personas en su clase, podría dividirse en los 8 estilos cerebrales ... o si se trata de un grupo pequeño, 2 grupos (como Enfoque Racional y Enfoque Emocional)

En los grupos, haga un ejercicio; por ejemplo, desafíe a los grupos a ver cuál puede construir la torre más alta con 50 palillos y 20 caramelos de gelatina. Pídales que discutan el impacto de los estilos cerebrales en la forma en que se enfocaron ... tomaron decisiones ... y se motivaron durante el ejercicio

REFLEXIONAR

El objetivo de esta fase es interiorizar el aprendizaje, crear curiosidad por el descubrimiento y comprometerse con la próxima vez que se realice el ciclo. – 1, 2, 3 Pasta!

Al final, pida a los grupos que discutan algunas de estas preguntas ...

¿Cuáles son algunas cosas que ayudaron a su grupo a tener éxito y otras que interfirieron con el éxito?
¿Cómo afectan esos mismos factores a su desempeño en su trabajo / vida diaria?
¿Cómo apareció tu estilo cerebral durante este ejercicio?
¿Cuáles son algunos de los beneficios de tu estilo cerebral y algunos de los riesgos?
¿Cómo podría asegurarse de USAR su Estilo Cerebral con más cuidado para optimizar ... y desarrollar las cosas enumeradas anteriormente que ayudan al éxito?

Concluya con una Acción

Solicite a cada persona que identifique un paso de acción específico que les ayude a usar su Estilo cerebral más eficazmente ... y que comparta con un compañero lo que hará y cómo esto lo ayudará.
