The UEQ profile is a versatile tool that will introduce people to the world of emotional intelligence and help them set goals or navigate conflict. Here are some tips on how the tool can be used while discussing a profile with someone.
Tips for Getting Started
Remind the person, this is just data… information… for reflection.
This is a snapshot in time.
There are no scores here, no “good” or “bad” evaluation.
Perhaps introduce the ‘outcomes’ and how they are derived (high level) related to EQ as a predictor of ‘success’
Finding a goal to focus on should not be forced. Having something simple to relate the practice throughout the report might be helpful
Perhaps having the person read through the full repo
Explore strongest areas, explore lowest areas.
I felt “what do you see” could put a person on the spot.
Tips for Going Deeper
Share that this is the EQ in action model (high level if feels right with participant)
Consider thinking about the Blue as reflection, Red as action, Green as green pastures
Or, Know = Past, Choose = Present, Give = Future
Or Know = Self awareness, Choose = Self Management, Give = Self Direction
Perhaps look at where they typically feel comfortable and/ or get stuck and if it aligns to the K,C,G profile (in relation to goals/ context of conversation)
Try to encourage specifics
Taking one each of the Action Steps (for Emotions & Goal, Energy and Options for Goals and Purpose Aligned with Goals) and tie it up with our KCG and saying “so what is in our K or our C or our G that would make that Action Step easy or difficult?
Could do the same for Action Steps and one of the original goals
Lead the conversation as far as it needs to go.
Sometimes it is helpful to reflect upon ‘why’ we are not exploring our goals?”
Tips for Wrapping Up
Consider asking the participant to share any insights from the conversation and what their biggest takeaway is.
Introduce a few questions for the client to reflect upon - Use suggested Questions.
Encourage the participant to go through the report again on their own with another small goal in mind and see it if brings more clarity to the process.
Suggest the participant to pick one thing they can do tomorrow, in light of these new insights, that will help them work toward their goal.
Encoure the participant find links and circle them between the goal they wrote down and areas of the model and the action steps that will help with their specific goal.
